Late one night, we received a distress call about 18 dogs abandoned in an old house on the town’s outskirts. Among them was a mother dog with her newborn puppies. It broke our hearts to see them left in such dire circumstances, especially as the weather threatened to worsen.
Despite her exhaustion and anxiety, the mother dog did her best to care for her pups, moving them around to shield them from harm. Tragically, the mother fell ill, and the puppies began to weaken. Six of them didn’t survive, leaving the mother in critical condition, barely able to stand.
We rushed them to the hospital, where Serena, the mother dog, was diagnosed with dehydration, anemia, and a positive Ehrlichia test. Her condition was grave, requiring intensive treatment for at least three days.
Despite her own suffering, Serena continued to prioritize her surviving pups’ well-being. It was a testament to a mother’s love and sacrifice. Witnessing Serena’s struggle for survival alongside her eleven puppies filled us with mixed emotions—sadness, fear, and a glimmer of hope. We worked tirelessly to ensure they all received the care they needed.
The sleepless nights were challenging, but seeing Serena and her pups grow stronger each day made it all worthwhile. We provided extra care and encouragement, knowing the road to recovery would be long and difficult.
As the days passed, Serena and her pups blossomed into healthier, happier beings. Their resilience and determination inspired us to continue our mission of rescuing and caring for animals in need. Despite the hardships, the journey with Serena and her pups reaffirmed our commitment to making a difference in their lives.
