‘Heartbroken’ Mariah Carey confirms her mum and sister both died on the same day

Mariah Carey has said that her ‘heart is broken’ after suffering the double tragedy of her mum and sister both dying on the same day.

Patricia had been married to Mariah’s father, Alfred Roy Carey, and had children Alison, Mariah and Morgan.

Mariah’s parents had divorced when the singer was three years old, and the star expanded on their relationship in her 2020 bookThe Meaning of Mariah Carey.

In her memoir, she wrote: “Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities.

“It’s never been only black-and-white – it’s been a whole rainbow of emotions.

“Our relationship is a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment.

“A complicated love tethers my heart to my mother’s.”

The memoir was in part dedicated to Patricia, with Mariah writing the tribute: “And to Pat, my mother, who, through it all, I do believe actually did the best she could. I will love you the best I can, always.”

Speaking to People, Mariah confirmed the sad news that her family had suffered two tragedies on the same day.

The singer told the outlet that her mother Patricia and sister Alison had died, though provided no information on the causes of death and asked for privacy at what everyone can appreciate is an ‘impossible time’.

She said: “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.

“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed.

“I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”

Patricia was a trained opera singer and vocal coach who, in 2010, performed alongside her daughter on Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas to You, a TV special.

Together they performed ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’, and at the end of the song, Mariah told a rapturous audience to give ‘a big hand to my mother Patricia Carey’.

It may be that the singer’s relationship with her sister Alison was complicated as well, as in her 2020 memoir, she wrote that it was ’emotionally and physically safer for me not to have any contact’ not to have contact with her sister or brother.

As the singer said, it certainly has been ‘a tragic turn of events’ for her family.

But there’s a very good reason for it.

We might only be in September but some people are already feeling the festive spirit.

Christmas is 112 days away and Mariah Carey’s iconic track has re-entered the charts.

That’s right, prep your ears because ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You‘ is coming back for another year.

Talk of the Charts noted how the legendary song has cracked the top 100 in the Philippines.

The song reportedly had more than 300,000 streams on September 1, which is a 75 per cent increase from last year.

The queen herself has even been shocked to hear people pumping the track so early in the year.

While you might not start getting in the festive mood until December at the earliest, it’s worth noting that things are a little different in the Philippines.

The holiday season starts in September and Christmas music can even be played in August in anticipation.

According to SBS, there’s no real reason why people in the Philippines celebrate Christmas so early compared to the rest of the world.

Christmas is referred to the ‘ber’ months in the country as every month until the end of the year have that suffix.

Manila-based events design company Robert Blancaflor Group told CNBC: “Christmas is the longest celebrated season in the Philippines and … our country celebrates it the longest globally.

“Can you imagine a whole nation willingly sharing warmth and love … this long?”

What’s even more nuts is that the celebrations only end in early January, so it even goes past December 25.

Romano Santos wrote in a Vice article about what it’s like enduring the Christmas season for four months.

“Like any reasonable adult, I don’t want to be reminded of my responsibilities sooner than when I actually have to meet them. If it’s a December problem, please don’t bother my September self about it,” they said.

They added: “The sooner we start celebrating, the sooner I want to stop. Come December (you know, the actual holidays), I’m throwing up the holiday spirit faster than I’m throwing up your aunt’s fruit cake.”

So that’s why Mariah Carey has seen a big surge in the charts in at least one country because the Philippines has officially entered Christmas season.

Taylor Swift breaks silence on terror attack plot planned for her concert that saw shows cancelled

Taylor Swift breaks silence on terror attack plot planned for her concert that saw shows cancelled

The ‘Lover’ singer said she felt a ‘tremendous amount of guilt’

Taylor Swift has broken her silence on the alleged terror attack plot that caused three of her shows to be cancelled.

The ‘Lover’ singer was set to play at Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna, Austria, earlier in August as part of the European leg of The Eras Tour, which concluded earlier this week.

However, police reportedly uncovered a plot by terrorists, with three people arrested in connection with allegedly planning attacks inspired by the Islamic State group.

Security was then ramped up at Wembley when the star returned to perform more London dates last week, with hundreds of guards surrounding the area.

And now that she’s finished this European leg, Swift shared a lengthy statement reflecting on the ‘devastating’ time to Instagram.

She explained how it brought the ‘most passionate crowds’ she’s ever played for as she expressed how ‘proud’ she is of her crew and fellow performers.

The ‘Love Story’ singer went on to say how walking onstage in London ‘was a rollercoaster of emotions’.

“Having our Vienna shows cancelled was devastating,” she wrote. “The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear, and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows.

“But I was also so grateful to the authorities because thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives. I was heartened by the love and unity I saw in the fans who banded together.”

Swift explained that she decided all of her energy ‘had to go toward helping to protect the nearly half a million people’ coming to watch her in London.

The star added: “My team and I worked hand in hand with stadium staff and British authorities every day in pursuit of that goal, and I want to thank them for everything they did for us.”

Addressing her silence on the matter until now, she said: “Let me be very clear: I am not going to speak about something publicly if I think doing so might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who come to my shows.

“In cases like this one, ‘silence’ is actually showing restraint, and waiting to express yourself at a time when it’s right to. My priority was finishing our European tour safely, and it is with great relief that I can say we did that.”

Swift thanked her fans in Europe for the ‘adventure of a lifetime’ and said the energy at Wembley Stadium following the cancelled shows brought her ‘back to a place of carefree calm’.

Mum discovers her son’s bride is actually her daughter on their wedding day

Mum discovers her son’s bride is actually her daughter on their wedding day

This takes wedding drama to a whole new level

Lucy Devine

There’s always a drama at a wedding.

Whether it’s that one person who always gets absolutely trollied, or a family argument making things mega tense on the top table, it’s pretty rare that the day goes by without at least one eyebrow-raising moment.

But it’s kind of unusual for the groom‘s mother to realise her long lost daughter is actually the bride.

But this actually happened in China.

The groom's mother apparently recognised her daughter from a birth mark.

orientaldaily

According to Times Now News, the groom’s mother apparently recognised her daughter, who she was separated from years ago, from a birthmark on her hand.

This prompted her to ask the bride’s parents if their daughter was adopted, which they confirmed, explaining she had been found on a roadside 20 years ago.

After they both realised what was happening, the mother and daughter were seen embracing in floods of tears during the wedding in Suzhou, Jiangsu province.

The pair went ahead with the wedding.

After all the commotion, the wedding actually went ahead, but only after it was established that the bride and groom didn’t have a biological connection.

This is because the groom, luckily, was also adopted and therefore isn’t related by blood.

It’s reported that the mother decided to adopt a son after searching for her long lost daughter for many years.

The bride apparently described the reunion as ‘happier than the wedding day itself’.

Someone needs to seriously make this into a movie.

In other wedding news, last year, a couple caused a totally different kind of drama after they spent £46 million on their wedding day – and made a registry to match.

Those sending a gift could choose from a $5,400 (£4,230) vase, a $2,950 (£2,340) antique silver four-piece tea and coffee set, a $2,850 (£2,260) bobcat ornament and a $860 (£680) gravy boat.

On the cheaper end of the list was a $24 (£19) wine glass and a $28 (£22) napkin.

The couple seem to be asking for several vases and animal figurines, as well as a rather bizarre candy cane teapot ($530/£420).

People online were pretty disgusted by the outlandish display of wealth, with many baffled over how it was even possible to spend so much money on one day.

The extravagance included flying their guests out on private jets, renting the Palace of Versailles, having a private concert from Maroon 5 and covering absolutely everywhere in flower displays.

You can read all about the big day here.

Ben King

Mariah Carey is an American singer, songwriter, producer, entrepreneur, actress and arguably one of the largest household names of recent times.

Carey is most famous for producing one of the biggest Christmas hits of all time – “All I want for Christmas is You”. This song has become one of the best-selling and most profitable singles of all time with global sales having reached 16 million – a number that will undoubtedly continue to rise year on year. Reportedly, the song only took 15 minutes to write, but that certainly hasn’t stopped the record achieving monumental levels of success.

Carey has much more than just Christmas hits in her repertoire and her other albums have amassed over 200 million collective sales worldwide. Mariah’s self-titled debut album, released in 1990, went on to be certified 9x platinum in the US alone. Her album released in 1993 titled ‘Music Box’ went on to be one of the best-selling albums of all time, selling a staggering 28 million copies worldwide and spending an unprecedented 128 weeks on the Billboard Chart.

Over the course of her time in the music industry, Carey has won five Grammys, ten AMAs and 15 Billboard Music Awards.

With this glittering success Carey has boasted throughout her long career, what is her net worth now in 2022?

Mariah Carey Net Worth 2022:

According to Celebritynetworth, Mariah Carey’s net worth sits at a seriously outstanding figure of $320 million.

This comes as no surprise when considering the fact that Carey is the second best-selling female artist of all time, behind only Madonna. She is also one of the 15 best-selling musical artists in history having sold over 200 million albums worldwide.

Outside of music, Carey has been involved in impressive deals that have helped to boost her net worth to where it is today. In 2012, she earned $18 million to appear on one season of American Idol. Then in 2015 she signed a $30 million contract to undertake a two-year residency in Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.

Whilst Carey may only be searching for love next Christmas, a lot of people certainly wouldn’t say no to a nine figure net worth from Santa Claus.
