This dog suffered from leishmaniasis, a parasitic disease that leads to skin, mucous membranes and internal organ syndromes. The cruel disease torments the animal, causing it to become as thin as a skeleton. His owner had no other choice but to ask for help from us.
There wasn’t much chance of saving the dog’s life, but we knew if we left it there, it would definitely die. So I took this poor boy with me to try treatment because we have a lot of experience with dogs suffering from leishmaniasis.
Returning to the rescue team, he was very docile and cooperative. He was eating, which was a good sign, he was still getting nourishment but not enough to fight off the ravages from the parasites. We mixed the worm medicine with his food, hoping it would help him get better.
After dinner, the dog went to sleep on a warm bed with a tired look on his face. We gave him more fluids but he still didn’t feel better, his body was only skin and bones. So as soon as it was light I took him to the vets.
On the 12th day, the dog almost overcame death, he was still skinny but you could see he had regained his spirit. The dog can now stand up and walk, and he also loves to walk outside. Currently, he can eat his own meals and live happily with other friends at the rescue center.
It must have been a happy, emotional moment that everyone was looking forward to.
